HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Here at Epic Info we like to keep it mildly PG-13 but HOLY FUCKING SHIT! is what I have to say to describe Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The movie steps its game up on every level and it has re-defined what a Summer Blockbuster is. I admit off the bat I have a slight bias towards Transformers, Optimus Prime is the ultimate good guy and I am a Michael Bay loyalist and I even openly admit although Transformers 2 is heavily flawed I still loved it because my god its the fucking Transformers. But Transformers: Dark of the Moon should of been the 2nd installment of the series and it is by far the best in the series. Everything about this movie is better than the previous films. The action, the story, the characters, the comedy, the “Bay-ness”
I want to give a brief summary but not too much because there are some twists and turns. The Autobots are now working with the government to invoke peace all around the world and while Optimus and the gang are saving the world, Sam is left trying to find a job as a recent college graduate and although he has saved the world twice, the world doesn’t know and he can’t get any kind of respect… except from his crazy hot new girlfriend Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley). The Autobot find out that their history with Earth goes back to the 1960′s when an Autobot ship left Cyberton during their war with the Decepticons with a prototype weapon that could of won the war against the Decepticons crashed on the moon. Thus igniting the space race between Russia and the United States. On board the ship is the original leader of the Autobots, Sentinel Prime who was drained of all his power and it is up to The Autobots to bring Sentinel Prime back and protect him and the weapon he has on his ship from the Decepticons
Michael Bay has admitted that Transformers 2 was bad and he blamed it on the writers strike and that he only had 2 weeks to develop the story and has promised to make a better movie and he definitely delivered. The story is a lot richer than the previous films and the story made all the explosions and action that Bay loves to put in his movies make sense because although the story in TF2 was dumb the action was awesome. One thing that I really loved is the arc that Sam goes through from the 1st movie to now. He goes from scared high school kid to a proactive hero. This movie is a lot darker and more adult in tone than the previous films yet it still kept its charm and humor but this time the jokes didn’t seem forced and awkward they flowed naturally.
I didn’t think I would ever say this about a movie but I loved the 3D. This movie is a Prime example of how you do 3D right. They shot this movie using the James Cameron Fusion Camera, the same one he shot Avatar in, and it pays off in spades. I think the biggest benefit of the 3D is that it forced Bay to slow the action down. The 1st two films the action was so fast paced that it was nearly impossible to distinguish what was going on and who was fighting who. But in this movie Michael Bay took a page out of the John Woo handbook and every time a big stunt was about to go down the movie slowed down a la Zack Synder “300″ style and it worked beautifully. So good in fact that at least 3 times the audience I was watching the movie with had to clap their hands in excitement especially in one scene when Bumblebee throws Sam out of him while hes in Car form, transforms and jumps over a car, catches Sam and transforms back into a car in one seamless motion. It was truly amazing, it made my jaw drop.
I said a years ago that Shia LaBeouf is our generations Will Smith. And I think I may be right because he is really becoming quite the leading man. He can carry a franchise, he is smart, witty, and funny. And he has a ton of charisma I kept finding myself laughing at not just his quick one liners but his overall mannerisms.
My only big complaint is that there wasn’t enough Megatron. He kind of took a back seat in this movie and did more bossing around than kicking ass, but when he did fight he was awesome
Also if you notice I have yet not mentioned Megan Fox, nor her replacement that is because I didn’t think about her. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s character Carly probably could of been Makela if Megan Fox didn’t get her self fired but honestly the only thing she did was look pretty, run in slow motion, and be a damsel in distress
This movie is reason why they made IMAX screens and 3D cameras. This is a summer blockbuster. I really loved this movie, I had a lot of fun watching it and I got caught up emotionally in the movie and I felt like a kid again. For a long time I have said that Jurassic Park is the ultimate summer movie well now I think its safe to say that Transformers: Dark of the Moon has stolen that title from Jurassic Park. They say that this is the last Transformers movie, well at least the last for Micheal Bay and if it is he sure as hell went out on a high note. I highly recommend this movie.
